Valknut Urnes Style Large Bronze Amulet

All Viking warriors aspired to live and die bravely in order to be chosen for Valhalla. This is Odin's hall in Asgard where he takes the bravest fallen warrior. There they fight and feast until Ragnarok when they will be called on to fight alongside the gods in the final battle.

The Valknut is the symbol of Valhalla. It was used both to indicate that a fallen warrior was in Odin's hall, and to encourage the god to choose the slain warrior for his army.

As such, for the Vikings, the symbol represented the bravery and fearlessness that a Viking needed to display in life, in order to enter Valhalla in death.
