DATE: Victorian, c.1870

Wonderfully tactile antique silver guard chain dating from the latter half of the 19th century. The chunky oval double links (there's a smaller concentric link inside each of the outer ones to keep the links tightly together) have taken on a gorgeous antique patina over the past 150 years, giving them a smooth almost snake-like feel as you move it around in your hand. The length is a generous 56 inches, and it remains complete with original dog tag fastener.
